Use of e-services

As a non-resident, you can sign in to the Estonian Tax and Customs Board’s e-services environment and use e-services if you have an authentication tool that has a high assurance level.

You can use the following authentication tools to sign in to the e-MTA:

  • Lithuanian mobile-ID
  • the electronic identity (eID) tools of the European Union Member States

Entering e-MTA

When you first enter the e-MTA, you will be created a user account after successful authentication. Then you must contact the Estonian Tax and Customs Board’s customer support to open e-services.

Steps on first entry to the e-services environment e-MTA
  1. Click on the E-service button at the top of our website or enter the e-services environment e-MTA here.
  2. Select a method for signing in and follow the instructions.
  3. After successful authentication, a user account is created for you. The following text will be displayed, please follow the instructions.
     
    To enable e-services, please send an e-mail to the Estonian Tax and Customs Board’s customer support e-maks@emta.ee. Please indicate your full name, date of birth, personal identification code and the number of a valid identity document.

  4. The customer support will inform you of the opening of e-services and after that you can enter the e-MTA in the usual manner and use e-services as a natural person on your own behalf. User account details can be found in the e-MTA under Settings – User account.
  5. If you are a legal representative of a legal person and you need access to e-services on behalf of a company, send a message:
    • in the e-MTA:
      • by selecting Communication – Correspondence, or
      • by selecting Send a message in the Help Center, or
    • to customer support e-mail address [email protected].

Registration as e-resident of Estonia

If you cannot use any of the above authentication methods as a non-resident, we recommend that you register as an e-resident of Estonia.

E-residency offers citizens of foreign countries safe access to the e-services of Estonia. The holder of the digital ID card of an e-resident can sign documents digitally and sign in to all portals and information systems that recognise the Estonian ID card.

You can apply for the digital ID of an Estonian e-resident electronically at the e-Residency website. There you can also find instructions on how to submit an application and additional information on e-Residency.
