ETCB started refunding overpaid income tax

We started refunding overpaid income tax to people who have submitted their income tax returns electronically and whose tax returns do not require additional checking.

A total of 567 thousand income tax returns have been submitted to the Estonian Tax and Customs Board (ETCB) as of today, from which a total of 186,5 million euros of overpaid income tax will be refunded. Based on the currently submitted income tax returns, a total of 20,3 million euros of income tax must be paid additionally.

The ETCB’s customer support is already receiving questions about when to expect a refund. However, the Board asks to wait a little and reminds that the speed of income tax refund does not depend on the order in which returns were submitted.

“We make several tens of thousands of refunds every working day and no one who is entitled to a tax refund will miss it,” said Riina Randver-Sõer, ETCB's service owner of natural persons’ services.

Income tax refunds to people who have submitted their tax returns on paper will start on 17 March. Everyone can check the status of their tax return in e-MTA and the need to submit additional documents can also be checked there. The ETCB has until 1 October to refund overpaid income tax.
