Last year the Estonian Tax and Customs Board started the process of transformation and automation of E-Tax Board/E-Customs (e-ETCB) services. In addition, the Reporting 3.0 project was launched with the aim of reducing the data submission burden placed on companies, an update to the customs information system was initiated, as well as the creation of a convenient filing application for various e-solutions-based business models that is being carried out as a pilot project in collaboration with Uber.
Helm says that new and innovative services improve the Tax and Customs Board’s ability to support the operations and development of businesses. “Three years ago, as the black economy was on the rise, we focused on measures enabling us to combat tax fraud more effectively. In the next few years we intend to redirect our efforts largely for businesses to be able to take care of their tax matters more easily,” Helm explained.
“Instead of having the Estonian Tax and Customs Board persistently requesting for data, we would like to provide the option that we ourselves give the company a confirmation that everything is OK with regards to taxes,” Helm added.
Even though it may take until the year 2020 to completely replace E-Tax Board/E-Customs, the simplified parcel reporting application will already be completed this year and the new customs tariff information system will be finished next year. We are also planning to provide the opportunity for all users to test the early versions of newly updated services.
